Nana’s Orange Bread

inally Nana’s recipe, this is now Mary Jo’s specialty. She often cools the orange syrup by putting the hot saucepan out in the snow in winter months.

Orange Bread is a true family favorite. Be sure to bake a large batch, as you will need enough to serve for the week, as well as to stock up your freezer.

 1 tsp Salt
 1 Egg
 1 tbsp Melted butter
 3 cups Flour
 3 tsp Baking powder
 1 ½ cups Sugar
 2 Large oranges
 1 cup Milk

Grate orange rind and put in saucepan with enough water to cover, about a cup or so. Cook till tender. Add sugar and cook until it is a thick syrup. Set aside to cool.

Add beaten egg, milk, and butter to the cooled syrup. Add dry ingredients. Put in greased small loaf pans.

Bake for 45 minutes in 350 degree oven.
